I originally started this ‪#‎DisneySide‬ group to share the promotional free products we received from Disney Parks and MomSelect. After planning, preparing and holding our Disney Side @ Home Celebration, I have found my Disney Side. Would you believe that there was a time when didn't like Disney? It's true. One bad experience of vomiting through Walt Disney World and getting lost as an 11 year old almost ruined my ability to connect to Disney magic. It was 12 years before I returned to a Disney Park or even watched a Disney film. The renewed love for Disney crept into my heart with Disney's Aladdin. I had just moved from cold Massachusetts to sunny California. It was a whole new world for me and I was falling in love with my new home and a musician named Frank. Frank insisted that we go to Disneyland. Through jaded eyes, all I could see was dysfunctional people coming to dump their troubles in the mouse's house. Frank shared with me his memories of senior night and the camp ground outside of the park as a kid. I had fun despite my awful attitude. Six years later we took a real vacation with our two sons. Jon was four, Andrew was two. Pushing a stroller through Disney can be trying. But looking into the eyes of my husband and little ones, I began to truly fall in love with the park. Anything that could make my guys happy, I was a fan of. Then on day 3 there was the magical moment. While exhausted on a bench sharing a lemonade with little Jon, we watched Donald Duck sign autographs for adoring fans. There was a very large man covered with the kind of tattoos you'd see in prison waiting in line. We watched this tough guy introduce his tiny son to his friend Donald Duck. Then he asked Donald Duck to hold his little baby girl. Just before the picture was taken, the man burst into tears. Donald Duck was the one happy shining, memory of his entire childhood. Anyone could see that this man had been through a lot. Donald Duck held the man as he let go of whatever pain he had been holding for so long. I still cry thinking of the compassion the person in the duck suit showed this small family that day. Anything that can carry a human through their darkest days can only be magical. From that point on, I began to look for the magic everywhere. Not just in Disney Parks, but in the grocery store, at the gas station and even the DMV. These days I am a HUGE fan of Disney. My Disney Side is both inside and out. I believe it showed at our DisneySide @ Home Celebration. So, if you have pictures or stories of your own, please post and share them with our group.
